As Martin Luther King once said, "injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." The universality of this quote is amplified in these pandemic times--particularly in the prison system, where prisoners lack the protections and social distancing capabilities to stay safe.
On May 9, 2020 Caravans of demonstrators will call on San Quentin Prison officials to do more to protect the prison populations and send those who are soon due to be released as well as those who are sick, elderly or immuno-compromised home. They say failure to do so amounts to a sentence to death. Richard Tan, an attorney with the Labor Action Committee, tells us what's at stake.

Emily Yates--Berkeley Protest Festival 2015
Saturday Mar 21, 2020
Saturday Mar 21, 2020
As we're all hunkered down at home in this pandemic, I'm pulling some interviews that inspired me or made me smile in hopes that they may do the same for you. I interviewed Emily Yates in 2015 as I held the microphone in one hand and my five-month old daughter in my other. All of Emily's songs, in my opinion, give us space to consider important topics and smile at the same time but one of my favorites that feels like an appropriate and timely reminder is "Try Not to Be a Dick."
Emily speaks about how she went from being a military officer to a ukulele enthusiast and gives samples of a few of her songs in this piece.
