June 19th or Juneteenth was declared a federal holiday by President Biden in 2021. It's the day in which news of the emancipation proclamation finally reached those who had been enslaved in the state of Texas. It's a reminder that knowledge is power and it underscores the need for us to acknowledge our history (all of it--including the unbecoming racist roots of it) so that we can work toward a better, more inclusive future that truly offers justice for all.

After 15 years of service at a national park ranger, Betty Reid Soskin, who prefers to go by just 'Betty,' is hanging up her hat at the age of 100. Betty's last day of service was on March 31, 2022 and her official public retirement acknowledgment celebration took place on April 16, 2022. While Betty is known as an outstanding orator that can keep crowds sitting on the edges of their seats, Betty did the listening on this day as people of all walks of life sang her praises for paving the path to a more inclusive future by sharing a more inclusive history.
